Prayers for Cammie

Filed under: News and Views, New York City, Pop Culture 101 — Claudio @ 5:23 am

Any of you Mets fans who saw Carlos Beltran and Mike Cameron collide face-first in midair last night are urged to keep both in your prayers.

We here at The (vast) Right Wing Conspiracy are praying for a speedy and full recovery for both players. It really showed some heart and competitive edge to put themselves all the way out there for that liner, and simply highlights the passion and commitment of both players.

Huh?!

Filed under: Pop Culture 101, Celiberals, The Party — Claudio @ 8:35 am

People like this shouldn’t be allowed to speak on politics:

Belafonte used a Hitler analogy when asked about what impact prominent blacks such as former Secretary of State Powell and current Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had on the Bush administration’s relations with minorities.

“Hitler had a lot of Jews high up in the hierarchy of the Third Reich. Color does not necessarily denote quality, content or value,” Belafonte said in an exclusive interview with Cybercast News Service.

“[If] a black is a tyrant, he is first and foremost a tyrant, then he incidentally is black. Bush is a tyrant and if he gathers around him black tyrants, they all have to be treated as they are being treated,” he added.

When asked specifically who was a “black tyrant” in the Bush administration, Belafonte responded to this reporter, “You.” When this reporter noted that he was a Caucasian and attempted to ask another question, Belafonte abruptly ended the interview by saying, “That’s it.”

Stick to making movies chump. (Hat tip: The Corner).

It’s about that time again…

Filed under: Pop Culture 101, Budapest Bloggin' — Claudio @ 10:41 am

…time for random Family Guy quotes! Family Guy is the only thing keeping this American sane in Budapest. That and lots of alcohol - rubbing alcohol for cleaning my foot wound that is!

Public Diplomacy in Action

Filed under: Pop Culture 101, Budapest Bloggin' — Claudio @ 8:01 am

Always one to further American culture and policy (however I see fit: drinking, dancing, and dragging America’s way into the hearts and minds of common Hungarians), below is the box score and stats for my first and last league baseball game in Hungary.

I played right-field, struck out twice, but had no errors (which you will see is a bit of a small miracle). Obviously no Mike Cameron, but I was just happy to play. (BTW, my boy Jason Jenkins who played short and pitched is pretty good. He’ll be coming to a Boston college near you soon - like next fall).

Baseball in Hungary.

EUROPEAN THEMED UPDATE: In honor of my European friends, who do not care much for American baseball and instead prefer to be football (no, not the real football) fanatics, I leave you all with this:

USA Soccer ranked sixth in world (better than France, UK, Germany, Spain, Portugal — all those good soccer teams - er, football clubs) and reaches North/Central American international tournament finals.

Just think: the only thing that Europeans can still say they’re better than us at is soccer — OH WAIT, NO THEY CAN’T!

Pobre cito! (Ed. — You’re in an unusually obnoxious mood today!) Why yes, I is!

POST OF THE WEEK AWARD

Filed under: News and Views, Pop Culture 101 — Claudio @ 7:16 am

We don’t have a Post of the Week Award. But if we did, it would certainly go to Ace of Spades for this, the funniest and most creative post I have read in months:

Live Another Day: A New James Bond Script

Congrats, Ace. You have me dying over here (sorry, was that politically incorrect?)

NYC2012 Again

Filed under: News and Views, New York City, Pop Culture 101 — Claudio @ 7:09 am

So we don’t get the Olympics. Didn’t think we would anyway. Maybe now Bloomberg can be mayor again, instead of posing as the international NYC PR rep for some inane games that would cost taxpayers insane money and Americans would dominate anyway.

No biggie. But if Paris gets the games and I hear just one French person try to construe that as proof that they have the greatest city in the world, he’ll have Freedom Fries coming out of his nostrils.

Claudio

UPDATE:
London gets the games. Fine. Better them than the French. If a terrorist tries to attack the games, at least the Brits will do something about it.

Clever

Filed under: Conservatism, Pop Culture 101, The Party — Claudio @ 6:48 am

Who would’ve thought that a bold red hat with a bold white “W” would be adorned by conservatives in liberal Washington, D.C. as a political statement of support of the president?

It is almost so clever that I would rock the cap in liberal NYC if I weren’t an avowed Mets fan to the death.
